Our dog age calculator uses a logarithmic formula derived from epigenetic research, specifically the methylation-based aging clock developed by researchers at the University of California San Diego. This approach recognizes that dogs age rapidly in their early years and more gradually as they mature, rather than at a constant rate.
We further refine our calculations with size-based adjustment multipliers, because a 10-pound Yorkie and a 150-pound Mastiff experience aging very differently. Larger breeds tend to have shorter lifespans and age more rapidly after reaching maturity, while smaller breeds often live significantly longer.
