The Beagle is a small, compact hound with a merry personality and an extraordinary sense of smell. They are curious, clever, and energetic, making them excellent family dogs and detection dogs. Beagles are pack animals that thrive on companionship.
History & Origins
Beagles trace their ancestry back to 5th-century Greece, but the modern breed was developed in England in the 1830s. Reverend Phillip Honeywood established a Beagle pack in Essex that is believed to be the foundation of the modern breed. They were imported to America after the Civil War.
