Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu is an affectionate, outgoing companion breed with a luxurious flowing coat and a distinctive face. Known as the "lion dog," they were bred solely as companions and lap dogs. Shih Tzus are happy, outgoing dogs who love nothing more than following their people from room to room.
History & Origins
Shih Tzus are an ancient breed dating back over 1,000 years, developed in China as royal lap dogs for Chinese emperors. They were bred from crosses of Lhasa Apso and Pekingese dogs within the Chinese imperial palace. The breed nearly went extinct during the Chinese Revolution but survived through 14 dogs.
